In recent developments within the Asante Akyem North Constituency of the Ashanti Region, tensions have escalated following alleged controversial remarks made by Member of Parliament, Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi, towards independent parliamentary candidate Ohene Kwame Frimpong.

The incident, which reportedly occurred during a Thanksgiving Service over the weekend, has ignited demands from residents for an immediate apology from the MP.

The alleged comments made by Hon. Andy Appiah Kubi against Mr. Frimpong, coupled with purported threats on his life, have prompted outrage among some inhabitants of the constituency.

In response to the perceived attack, the Concerned Citizens of Asante Akyem North convened a press conference to address the issue, denouncing the conduct of the lawmaker as unparliamentary and potentially detrimental to the political landscape of the constituency.

Mr. Eric Adom Opoku, Secretary of the Concerned Citizens group, emphasized the gravity of the situation during the press conference.

Mr. Opoku highlighted the need for accountability and decorum from elected officials, stressing that inflammatory rhetoric has no place in public discourse, especially from those entrusted with representing the interests of the community.

The demand for an apology from Andy Appiah Kubi underscores the significance of political civility and respect for opposing viewpoints.

“We are calling on our MP to redirect his focus towards fostering development within the constituency, rather than engaging in personal attacks and divisive rhetoric.

“Such sentiments reflect a growing desire for constructive dialogue and collaboration among political stakeholders, with an emphasis on addressing the pressing needs of the community,” he said.

Again, the secretary made it known that the fallout from this incident serves as a reminder of the inherent responsibilities that accompany public office.

“Elected officials bear the duty to uphold the principles of integrity, transparency, and respect for democratic values.

“Any deviation from these principles not only undermines public trust but also undermines the foundation of democracy itself,” he added.

As the controversy unfolds, it is imperative for all parties involved to exercise restraint and engage in meaningful dialogue to address grievances and chart a path forward.

The resolution of this matter will require sincere efforts towards reconciliation and accountability, with a commitment to promoting unity and progress within the Asante Akyem North Constituency.
