Last Tuesday night, a fierce rainstorm unleashed its wrath upon parts of the Ashanti Region, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Among the hardest-hit areas was the Asuofua R/C Primary School, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya North district.

The tempestuous storm brought with it strong winds that battered the school for about an hour, resulting in significant damage to its infrastructure.

The roof of approximately 15 classrooms, including the office and computer lab, was mercilessly ripped off, leaving the interior exposed to the elements.

Additionally, the Junior High School block suffered a catastrophic collapse, leaving furniture and essential teaching materials vulnerable to the relentless rain.

Upon visiting the school, it was evident that the students were grappling with the aftermath of the calamity.

Some were diligently attempting to salvage soaked books, while others sought solace in play amidst the chaos.

Assembly Member for the Asuofua-Asamang electoral area, Honorable Michael Osei Kwaku, expressed deep concern over the extent of the damage inflicted upon the school.

He emphasized the urgent need for substantial repair works to restore the school to a functional state.

Despite the dire circumstances, assistance from the government has yet to materialize, leaving the school community uncertain about the way forward.

Highlighting the longstanding neglect of the school’s maintenance and renovation needs, Honorable Kwaku underscored the urgent necessity for intervention.

He lamented that the building, having undergone minimal repair works many years ago, had gradually deteriorated, rendering it vulnerable to such disasters.

Fortunately, the school was unoccupied at the time of the rainstorm, averting potential harm to students and staff.

However, the severity of the damage underscores the urgent need for swift action to rebuild and fortify the school against future calamities.

In the face of adversity, students bravely voiced their plea for government assistance to rehabilitate their beloved school.

It is imperative that swift and decisive action be taken to rebuild and fortify the school, ensuring that the pursuit of knowledge may resume undeterred.

The resilience and determination of the school community serve as a poignant reminder of the unwavering spirit in the face of adversity.
