A 29-year-man has been confirmed dead after he was stabbed by his fiancée on Sunday 11 June at Ayigya Zongo in the Oforikrom municipality of the Ashanti Region.

The incident has left residents and family members in shock.

The deceased, Joseph Bawa, sustained multiple wounds following an altercation with the suspect who was later identified as Jennifer Appiah, a 32-year-old woman.

Bawa was rushed to the KNUST hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police at the KNUST division confirmed the incident to Asaase News but did not give additional information.

Sources close to the development at the police command say the police are not ruling out a case of murder, indicating that some “persons of interest” are assisting with investigations.

Frantic efforts are underway to arrest the suspect who is said to be on the run, the source said. The victim’s mother, Hawa Alhassan, is demanding justice for her son.

“I had been advising my son to end this relationship but he refused listen. Now the lady, after killing my son, cannot be found. I am pleading with the police to arrest and bring her to justice,” the teary-eyed mother told reporters who visited the grief-stricken family.

This adds to the growing trend of unsolved murder cases linked to gender-based violence.

Two months ago, a police officer with the Special Weapons and Tactic Unit of the Ashanti regional police command shot his girlfriend, Victoria Dapaah, in Adum, Kumasi. The officer, Ahmed Twumasi, has been charged with murder over the death of Dapaah, a bar operator.

Twumasi is yet to face full trial at the high court.
