Ghana Electrical Contractors Association say, government is sidelining them from their usual duties.
According to them, government is not giving them direct electrical contracts but always award to the building contractors which is a key challenge in their duties.
The President of the Association “Awal Sakib Mohammed” who made this known to the media during presentation of awards to their members in Kumasi said, most of the building contractors are profiteering and are using uncertified contractors and inferior electrical cables for the wiring.
“GECA is therefore pushing for separation of jobs so that electrical jobs are awarded separately to specialized electrical companies,whereas the civil and building work is given to a civil engineer so that they can have very good electrical installations in Ghana.
Added that if the government fails to do the needed it will result in inefficient electrical system which will lead to rampant fire outbreak in the country.
“A lot of the buildings that I know in this country are setting on time bomb because quality have been compromised. He alleged;
Meanwhile the Ashanti Regional President for GECA Divine Osei Menta,has advised it members to patronise quality cables for their wiring projects instead of relying on imported inferior products to undertake their housing wiring contracts.
This is because the inferior ones can easily cause fire outbreaks once they heat up.
