A/R: Assembly member sermons electoral commission in court over irregularities

Hon. Vivor George is the elected Assembly member for Mambang Akaase electoral area has sermons the electoral commission to court over the said alleged serious misconduct during the presiding member election in Ahafo Ano north.

Hon Vivor George stated that there were irregularities in the voting process including the use of numbered ballot papers and she compromised the secrecy of voting. She also forced us to use pen instead of indelible ink which is against the law.
According to him despite all the protests by Hon George Vivor, the municipal Electoral officer ignored the complaints and left the hall with their staff.

According to the constituent, Mrs Betty Mensah has been condoning illegalities in the constituency therefore urged the government to remove her from office as municipal electoral commission before she causes chaos in the constituency coming general polls.
Speaking to media alleging that, Mrs Batty Mensah is going out with CEO of NADMO Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh therefore she took instructions from him.

A letter of protest and caution has been submitted to the Officer-in-Charge of the Municipal Electoral Commission in the Ahafo-Ano North Municipal Assembly, Madam Betty Mensah regarding the recent election of the Presiding Member for the municipality.

The letter, submitted by legal representatives of Mr. Vivor George, the elected Assembly Member for the Mambang Akaase Electoral Area, alleges serious misconduct during the election process.

According to the letter, there were irregularities in the voting process, including the use of numbered ballot papers and the compromise of the secrecy of the vote.

According to some constituents, Betty Mensah, has been condoning illegal activities despite being expected to remain impartial.

They claim that Betty appears to have close ties with Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh and other influential figures in the constituency, and is allegedly involved in perpetuating wrongdoing during elections in the constituency.

The legal representatives emphasize that the election of the Presiding Member should have been conducted by secret ballot, as stipulated in the Model Standing Orders for the various District, Municipal, and Metropolitan Assemblies.

They have called for an investigation into the alleged misconduct by the Municipal Electoral Officer, Betty Mensah to bring closure to the unlawful act in the constituency.

Meanwhile, Copies of the letter have been sent to the District Coordinating Director of the Ahafo-Ano North Municipal Assembly, the Regional Head of the Electoral Commission in Ashanti Region, and the Municipal Police Commander of Ahafo-Ano North.

In addition to the allegations of election misconduct in the Ahafo-Ano North Municipal Assembly, some individuals in the municipality have accused Mr. Eric Nana Agyemang Prempeh, the President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) and parliamentary candidate for the constituency, of being involved in the alleged illegalities.

According to these individuals, Mr. Prempeh is purportedly collaborating with the Electoral Commission (EC) to perpetrate unlawful acts during the election process.

They were extremely surprised that Mr. Prempeh had joined in engaging in unlawful electoral acts, especially considering that he is the NALAG President and should have known better.

The Aggrieved individuals further accused Mr. Prempeh of conspiring to cause the removal of the former Municipal Chief Executive for the area, Martina Appiah-Nyantakyi, in order to facilitate the appointment of one of his allies.

They expressed their resistance to the potential appointment of this individual, citing his previous affiliation with the National Democratic Congress and alleging that he has not contributed his qouta to the NPP political party in the constituency.
