The leadership of Concerned Citizens Of Kusaug have condemned the military brutalities upon the innocent civilians in Garu and Tempane Constituencies in the Kusaug Traditional Area in the Upper East Region on the dawn of Sunday 29th October, 2023.
According to a press release signed by the Secretary of the Association Hon Fuseini Mumuni Azonko, they condemn this dastardly act in no uncertain terms of the military.
The action by the military is barbaric and unprofessional and must be treated with contempt by all and sundry.
The press release further added that it is surprising that our security forces who are being fed by our taxes to protect lives and property will exhibit this kind of atrocities on defenceless civilians for no apparent reason.
If the press release by the National security minister justifying the military brutalities upon the innocent civilians is anything to go by, why should the military go as far as Bugri in the Tempane District to brutalize residents there?
According to the Association, there is more to it than he has put out there, and they therefore demand clarification to that effect.
The association by this press release, are therefore calling on the appropriate Authorities and government for that matter to conduct a full scale investigation into the matter and the perpetrators of these heinous crimes be brought to book to serve as a deterrent to others and the victims adequately compensated.
Ghana is not under a military regime, but rather a democratic dispensation country and therefore, the rights of citizens as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution must be uphold and respected by all state organs, institutions and agencies of which the Ghana Armed Forces is not an exception.
According to them, they appreciate the efforts thus far made by Members of Parliament in the Kusaug Traditional Area and some of their colleagues who have committed themselves to ensure that justice is served on this innocent civilians, to pursue this matter to its logical conclusion.
They however urge the residents to remain calm and co-operate with their representatives in Parliament as well as other relevant stakeholders to handle this matter with decorum.
