FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

“Addressing the Alarming Rise of Power Theft in Ghana: A Call to Action by the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA).”

The Ghana Electrical Contractors Association (GECA) is deeply concerned about the rampant issue of power theft in Ghana, as recently highlighted in the Joynews Hotlines documentary, “Power Thieves.” In this exposé, the Electricity Company Of Ghana (ECG) employees and other individuals were shown engaging in the illegal sale of unapproved meters at exorbitant prices, leaving unsuspecting service applicants in dire straits.

GECA regards the actions of these individuals as not only disconcerting but also detrimental to the economic development of Ghana.

We firmly believe that illegal service acquisition and energy theft should have no place in our nation’s progress.

In response to these alarming revelations, the Ghana Electrical Contractors Association urgently calls upon the Electricity Company Of Ghana (ECG) to utilize all available legal resources to ensure the successful prosecution of any individual involved in illegal power activities.

GECA stands resolutely against any form of unlawful conduct and fervently encourages electrical contractors throughout the country to abstain from engaging in any illegal practices that exacerbate Ghana’s electricity challenges and tarnish the hard-earned reputation of the entire electrical community.

Furthermore, we urge the management of ECG to take immediate and robust steps to address the challenges that customers face during service applications and connections.
