Ghanaian singer and rapper,Mohammed Ismail Sharrif, professionally known as Black Sherif, has opened up about how he deals with his newly found fame and success.

Speaking on TV3’s Road to the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, the ‘Oil In My Head’ hitmaker revealed that he grounded himself by separating his professional persona, “Black Sherif,” from his ordinary self, “Mohammed Ismail Sherif.”

“I keep this thing in my mind,” he explained. “To me, maybe, sometimes, you guys see me Black Sherif.”

However, he added that he sees himself as both, and this outlook allows him to remain grounded and free to be himself, even when out on the streets.

According to the 21-year-old, he even still buys his favourite street food from his favourite street food vendors and sometimes gets it for free from vendors who recognize him

“People still see me at the waakye spot,” Blacko told the hosts “I would take my money ready to pay, but Amalia would decline,”

This mindset of being able to go back to zero and not fearing it has allowed Black Sherif to stay humble and level-headed, even as he continues to experience a meteoric rise.

“I can go back to zero and I don’t fear being zero,” he added

Black Sherif, who won Best New Artiste at the previous VGMAs has snagged nine nominations at the upcoming edition of the awards scheme.
