The Offinso District Forestry Commission, manager in the Ashanti Region Mr. Kobina Baiden has warned illegal chainsaw operators and like-minded people to halt their nefarious activities which was depleting the forest resources.
He noted that incessant activities of illagl chainsaw operators were not only destroying vast forests areas, but also contravening the forest laws of the land with impunity.
His comments came to bare after the Offinso forestry commission arrested one illegal chainsaw operator in the Asufu west Forest reserve in the Ashanti region.
The one was apprehended by the forest task force together with the security services when he was operating in the Asufu west Forest reserve at Anhwerekrom.
The suspect Nurudeen Mohammed a 24 year- old chainsaw operator.
The suspect has been handed over to the Abofour Police Command for prosecution.
According to Mr.Baiden they had a tip off that a gang of illegal chainsaw operators had invaded the Asufu west Forestry reserve and usually operate in the night but unfortunately one person were able to absconded at the time of the arrest.
He said, many have been prosecuted and they have several evidences on file.
He further warned those engaged in illegal chainsaw operation to refrain from such acts or face the full rigour of the law when caught.
