In a momentous event, the Asuofua Lorry Terminal was officially opened and handed over to the Asuofua Community by the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.
Spearheaded by Jometo Construction Limited in collaboration with the district assembly, this Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing transportation infrastructure and fostering economic growth in the region.
Addressing the gathering, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Rebecca Yeboah, emphasized the pivotal role of Asuofua as a connecting hub between the main Kumasi township and Nwabiagya.
She highlighted the necessity of development in the town and stressed that the terminal would alleviate traffic congestion along the Asuofua main station and the Barekese-Kumasi stretch, consequently benefiting commuters and businesses alike.
Furthermore, Hon. Yeboah underscored the importance of compliance among drivers, noting that various drivers’ unions have been allocated spaces within the terminal.
She warned against continued loading of passengers beside the road, stating that such actions would attract penalties.
Nana Barnieh Ahenkan, the Asuofuahemaa, expressed her enthusiasm for the terminal’s inauguration and urged drivers to utilize the facility effectively.
She also called upon the assembly to prioritize collaboration with traditional leaders, particularly in addressing sanitation issues, and cautioned against misallocation of funds.
Elder Joseph Anyan, CEO of Jometo Construction Limited, shed light on the long-term commitment of the BOT initiative, revealing that the company would oversee the terminal for 30 years before transferring ownership to the assembly.
This underscores the sustainability and durability of the project’s impact on the community.
Hon. Michael Osei, the Assembly Member of Asuofua, echoed the sentiments of excitement and pledged to actively encourage drivers to maximize the terminal’s benefits.
His commitment reflects the collective determination to ensure the success of this vital infrastructure project.
In conclusion, the opening of the Asuofua Lorry Terminal represents a triumph of collaboration and foresight in advancing the socio-economic development of the Atwima Nwabiagya North District.
As it becomes operational, the terminal promises to not only alleviate traffic congestion but also stimulate local commerce and improve overall quality of life for residents.
