A/R: Local Rice Farmers Cry For Market

The Offinso South Municipality has celebrated the 39th National Farmer’s Day with a colorful ceremony at the Municipality Capital, Offinso Agyeipra.The celebration was held to recognize and reward the hard work and contributions of farmers in the municipality to the growth and development of the agriculture sector in the country.

The celebration was attended by the Member of Parliament,(MP) Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) traditional leaders ,farmers, and other stakeholders in the municipality.

Sharing their grievances with the media in an interview, Local rice farmers in Offinso South municipality of the Ashanti Region, are seeking urgent assistance to secure a ready market for their produce.

The Farmers expressed their frustration, claiming that rice farmers feel neglected while the government supports cocoa farmers.

The farmers highlighted the issue of bad roads in the municipality, making it challenging to transport tons of local rice to markets. They fear this situation could adversely affect their livelihoods and hinder future farming activities.

The impact extends to their financial obligations, as farmers may need additional income sources to settle debts with financial institutions that provided credit for the previous farming season. The plead is for government intervention to address market access and infrastructure challenges, ensuring the sustainability of local rice farming in the region.

Meanwhile the over all best farmer in the Offinso south municipality Madam Vida Asiamah said they will continue to work assiduously to help the country economic growth.
