Global Handwashing Day: GHS With Funding Support From UNICEF Has Equipped 16 Basic Schools In The Ashanti Region.

Global Handwashing celebrations is a global advocacy day dedicated to increasing awareness about the importance of hand hygiene and triggering lasting change from the policy-level to community driven action.

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate on Tuesday, 8th November 2022, with a funding support from UNICEF Ghana has supported 16 selected basic schools in the region with necessary logistics that will help them continue with their health club activities which was labeled with a theme,”Building Resilience For Covid-19 Using School Children As Agents Of Change.”

One of the communications for development approach adopted by the directorate in the fight against COVID-19 in the region during the pandemic was school based approach.

All the 16 selected schools observed the Global Handwashing celebration in the month of October which they use to remind and equipped the populace in the region with the benefit of continuing observing hand hygiene.

Addressing the media, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, Ashanti Regional Health Director, emphasized that it is important to use the school children to raise awareness about the benefit of handwashing with soap among the populace and to enhance knowledge of good hand washing practices among them.

He urged the students as he hands over some tissues and liquids soaps to the 16 basic schools, to take their studies seriously so that the huge investment on them by their parents and the government would be beneficial to them.

Dr. Tenkorang then entreated the general public to inculcate the habit of handwashing with soap and advocating for hand washing in all public places because it’s effective and affordable way to prevent diseases.

Handwashing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of disease and saves lives.
