The 10th National COVID Vaccination Days (NaCVaDs) will commence, dubbed, “Protect Yourself, Protect Your Family, Get Vaccinated Against COVID-19 Now!” with the aim of safeguarding individuals, families, and communities from the devastating effects of the virus.

From the 5th to 9th May 2024, dedicated vaccination teams will be visiting various locations, including households, markets, schools, places of worship, and health facilities, to administer vaccines to those who are unvaccinated and those yet to take the second or booster dose.

With the region experiencing the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases in Ghana, achieving herd immunity has become increasingly critical.

During a short briefing, Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, urged Ghanaians aged 18 and above who are yet to get vaccinated or take a booster shot to take advantage of the opportunity to get vaccinated.

“Vaccination will be available to all eligible persons aged 18 and above.

“Vaccination is taking place in health centers and numerous vaccination posts, schools, markets, churches, bus stations, and your neighborhood,” he said.

Dr. Tenkorang then emphasized the importance of vaccination as the most effective tool available to curb the spread of COVID-19 and protect individuals from severe illness, hospitalization, and death.

“The vaccines are safe, effective, and free. They reduce COVID-19 disease severity and prevent hospitalization and death.

“If you experience anything unusual after vaccination, report to the nearest health facility,” he added.

He then urged people to continue observing various protocols since the virus is still present.

“Continue to observe COVID-19 prevention protocols such as frequent hand washing with soap under running water and using alcohol-based hand sanitizer,” he concluded.

The vaccination teams will visit various locations frequented by the public, such as markets, bus stations, schools, churches, mosques, and communities.

As of March 2024, the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate has administered a total of 4,890,880 vaccines, with 1,943,356 (53%) persons fully vaccinated and 2,636,955 (71.9%) persons who have received at least one dose.

By bringing vaccines to residents’ doorsteps, health authorities aim to alleviate logistical barriers and make the process more convenient.

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate is taking decisive action to combat the rising number of COVID-19 cases by launching the 10th National COVID Vaccination Days.

The regional health directorate is determined to overcome the challenges posed by vaccination hesitancy and achieve herd immunity.

By protecting ourselves, we protect our families, communities, and ultimately contribute to the nation’s efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Together, let us prioritize public health and join hands in this critical endeavor to emerge stronger from the grips of the pandemic.
