Police Probe Labour State Minister’s Shooting

Uganda’s Police have kicked off investigations into the murder of the  State Minister for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations, Retired Colonel Charles Okello Engola
Reports of the minister’s death trickled in this morning, 2nd May 2023, with information indicating that the minister was allegedly shot by his bodyguard, whose identity is yet to be known.
According to police spokesperson Fred Enanga, the forces’ forensic team is already on the ground to determine the exact facts relating to the crime.
Army spokesperson Brig. Felix Kulayigye, through his Twitter handle, has also confirmed that the force will be carrying out joint investigations with Police into this matter.

Reports say the minister was shot dead while at his home in Kyanja, a suburb of Kampala.

The development has triggered reactions and tributes. Among the notable people who have reacted to the death of the minister was Uganda’s Speaker of Parliament, Ms Anita Among.

While presiding over the plenary session, she extended her condolences to the bereaved family, adding it was God’s plan for the incident to happen, so no human has control over it or can question it.

The country’s law enforcement agencies have launched an investigation into the incident and the crime scene was cordoned off.

It remains unclear what motivated the soldier who was guarding a senior soldier serving a ministerial role to kill him.
