A man, suspected to be a military officer, was captured on camera attempting to rob a forex bureau at Anyaa near Sowutoum in the Ga Central District of the Greater Accra Region.

The incident occurred around 9:30 am yesterday, as the suspect entered the Global Exchange Forex Bureau, pretending to conduct a transaction.

A CCTV video footage, shared by blogger @SIKAOFFICIAL1 on Twitter, depicts the suspect wearing a black shirt with the inscription “WAR..END” at the back. In the footage, he places his bag on a chair in the waiting area, draws a gun, and aims it behind the metal bars separating customers from patrons. However, he swiftly retracts his weapon, places it back in his bag, and flees when the attendant raises an alarm.

Voices in the footage, believed to be the attendant on duty, narrate the incident, stating, “I sounded the alarm. The one inside is the one that is very loud. He didn’t know where I went, so that was when I started pressing the thing. He did not see where I went. You see that he is very calm and collected. That means he is a professional. He knows what he is doing. So they saw him coming out, but nobody was able to approach him.”

A male voice speculates in the video that the suspect may be a military man using a military weapon. “This man may be a military man; he is using a military weapon.” However, another male voice disagrees, saying, “No, he can’t be a military man.” These claims, although lacking evidence, are noteworthy observations by a potential witness in the case.

The police have not confirmed the identity or motive of the suspect, who is allegedly still at large. Forex bureau operators have been consistently advised by security services to remain vigilant in their dealings, given the attractiveness of their work to such incidents.
