Fact-check: Did Isaac Dogboe Lose All His Fights After Meeting President Akufo-Addo?

Ghanaian boxer Isaac Dogboe suffered another defeat this week with some netizens claiming he has lost all his fights since visiting President Akufo-Addo.

Some Ghanaians also said Isaac Dogboe’s career may be short-lived due to his height disadvantage but the boxer has shook off that claim as well.

What remains unverified is whether the boxer has been losing since visiting President Akufo-Addo.

@gloveleslie claimed: Since this guy sent his title to the Jubilee House, his life has never been the same. Be careful of the people you associate your success with.

This comes two nights after Dogboe suffered his latest defeat in the WBC featherweight title to Nick Ball in the final eliminator in Manchester, United Kingdom.

Dogboe suffered a unanimous defeat after all three judges scored in favour of Ball 116-111, 118-109, and 119-108.

 

This is his fourth defeat.

Dogboe recently lost to Robeisy Ramirez in his bid to win a world title.

He lost in back-to-back fights against Emmanuel Navarrete in the WBO Junior Lightweight division before a defeat to Ramirez in the the WBO Featherweight title.

 

Akufo-Addo Visit May 2018

In May 2018, a then newly crowned World Boxing Organisation (WBO) super bantamweight champion, Isaac Dogboe, presented his world title to President Akufo-Addo at the Jubilee House.

Dogboe recovered from round one knockdown to drop Magdaleno three times enroute to round 11 stoppage. The fight came off in April 2018 in Philadelphia, USA.

Dogboe was accompanied by his dad and now former trainer Paul Dogboe and management team to the Jubilee House.

The President expressed delight regarding Dogboe’s achievement congratulated the young champ and indicated that his victory had made the nation happy and proud.

While wishing him the best in his future bouts, he urged all upcoming boxers as well as sportsmen and women to work hard to bring more success and laurels to the nation.

According to some social media commentators, Dogboe has lost all his bouts since that visit.

The Facts of Dogboe’s Career

Isaac Dogboe has featured in 28 bouts and lost only 4. His knockout win ratio by percentage is 62% while his win by decision is 37%.

His loss ratio by Knockout is 25% while his loss ratio by decision is 75%.

Isaac Dogboe Stats After Visiting Akufo-Addo

Since visiting President Akufo-Addo in May 2018, Dogboe the Royal Storm has featured in 9 boxing bouts.

Out of the 9 bouts, Dogboe lost 4 and won 5.

However, before meeting President Akufo-Addo, Dogboe had never lost a bout.

However, he recorded his first loss in December 2018 to Emanuel Navarrete WBO World Super Bantamweight on unanimous decision.

This was followed by another defeat to the same Emanuel Navarrete in a Technical Knockout decision in May 2019.

But in between, Dogboe won his fights against Hidenori Otaki in a Technical Knockout decision immediately following his visit to the President.

He also won against Chris Avalos in July 2020 as well as wins against Christopher Diaz, Adam Lopez and more.

Verdict

It is NOT true that Isaac Dogboe lost all his fights after meeting President Akufo-Addo.
