Police have apprehended around 15 individuals from Awoshie Mangoase in Accra for obstructing sections of the Awoshie to Pokuase Highway.
The residents took the action in response to a pedestrian being hit by a car on Monday morning.
The motive behind their roadblock was to protest against the recurring incidents of vehicles colliding with pedestrians along that route.
They raised concern about approximately 45 people being involved in vehicle accidents in the same area this year.
During an interview with Citi News, the residents called upon authorities to install speed bumps and address the malfunctioning traffic lights along the road.
“Since January 2024, we have witnessed about 45 pedestrians being knocked down in this locality. Another tragic incident occurred this morning, and despite numerous appeals, they have not granted us permission to address the issue,” the residents expressed.
They also voiced their frustration with the response of law enforcement, stating, “The police officers do not seem to prioritize our concerns; they only respond when we take drastic measures.”
