Watch As Man Destroys Statue Of Big Six At Airport Roundabout

An unidentified man was seen in the early hours of Saturday, August 31, 2024, destroying the statue of the Big Six at the Airport Roundabout near Airport Shell.

This incident was shared on X by a user of the app named With Alvin.

He reported, “At 3am this morning, a man was spotted vandalizing the statue of the Big Six at the Airport Roundabout, near Airport Shell. Although the Police Patrol team was prompted, he did serious damage until he was apprehended. People are not happy with Ghana.”

The ‘Big Six’ were the leaders of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), a political party founded by J.B. Danquah in 1947 to advocate for self-government.

They were Ebenezer Ako-Adjei, Edward Akufo-Addo (1906-1979), J.B. Danquah, Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey, William Ofori Atta, and Kwame Nkrumah.

They were arrested by the colonial authorities in 1948 after disturbances that resulted in the deaths of three World War II veterans. Their images are featured on the front of the Ghana cedi notes.
