The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has by an executive instrument renewed the curfew hours imposed on the residents of Alavanyo and Nkonya townships and their environs from 6pm to 6am.
This new directive took effect on Sunday 26 February 2023. It replaces the previous curfew from 9pm to 6am over the past 2 years.
In a press release issued in Accra on Friday (24 February), the ministry expressed gratitude to the traditional leadership, youth and people of the area for their efforts in ensuring peace and unity.
It urged them to “use the established mechanisms for the resolution of all their conflicts and disputes.”
The release reiterated the “ban on all persons in the two towns and their environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons.”
It added that “any person found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.”
