Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang, the Ashanti Regional Health Director, has officially retired after an impressive 33 years of service in the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

Dr. Tinkorang, who served in various capacities over the years, was honoured at a retirement ceremony held at the Kumasi Technical University auditorium.

The event was attended by his wife, family members, colleagues, and prominent figures in society, all of whom gathered to celebrate his commitment and dedication to healthcare.

Throughout his career, Dr. Tinkorang held numerous leadership roles, including Medical Superintendent, District Health Director, Senior Medical Officer for Public Health, Deputy Director of Public Health, Acting Brong Ahafo Regional Director, Western Regional Health Director, and finally, Ashanti Regional Health Director.

His wealth of experience and unwavering dedication to saving lives earned him respect and admiration across the healthcare sector.

During the retirement ceremony, Dr. Tinkorang took the opportunity to introduce his successor, Dr. Fred Adomako Boateng, as the new Ashanti Regional Health Director.

In his speech, Dr. Adomako Boateng commended his predecessor for his remarkable service and legacy.

“Dr. Tinkorang must be celebrated because of how he dedicated his life to saving humanity,” Dr. Adomako Boateng said.

He further shared the wisdom Dr. Tinkorang imparted to them, stating, “He used to tell us to use all our hearts and minds in the work because we are here to save lives, and that has helped me a lot.”

Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah, the CEO of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), also praised Dr. Tenkorang’s contributions, advocating for ways to tap into the expertise of retirees like him.

“Although he’s going on retirement, there should be some measures which would still allow health professionals to tap into the experience and knowledge of such individuals, so their expertise is not wasted,” Professor Addai-Mensah stated.

He went on to describe Dr. Tinkorang as a pivotal figure during his 22-month tenure as CEO of KATH. “Dr. Tenkorang is one of the pillars that has helped me. He is humble, approachable, and down to earth,” he added, wishing him and his family well.

In an interview following the event, Dr. Emmanuel Tinkorang expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to his successful career.

He encouraged his colleagues to continuously improve the quality of care, saying, “Once quality care is improved, mortality will be reduced.

“I urge my fellow health professionals to give 100%—good staff attitude, courage, moral discipline, and godly wisdom should guide you so that you see every human being as valuable.”

The retirement of Dr. Tinkorang marks the end of a remarkable era of service, leaving a legacy that will continue to inspire healthcare professionals in Ghana for years to come.
