A Catholic Priest who was ordained Ten (10) months ago has been shot dead by unknown assailants
Rev. Fr. Charles Igechi from the Archdiocese of Benin City was allegedly shot on Wednesday 7th June 2023 while returning from his place of assignment.
In a statement to priests, the religious and faithful of the Archdiocese of Benin, Archbishop of Benin City Augustine Akubeze, while announcing his death and asking for prayers for his peaceful rest noted that the appropriate security agency had been informed of the killing and they are looking into it.
” We therefore wish to solicit for your prayers for the happy repose of his soul. I kindly wish to use this medium to inform all priests that there shall be a mass for the peaceful repose of Rev Fr Charles Onomhoale Igechi tomorrow June 9, 2023 at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre’s Chapel at 10:00am,” Archbishop Akubeze said in the statement.
Rev Fr Charles Onomhoale Igechi had been a priest for only 10 months having been ordained in 2022.
