A/R: Health Directorate Begins a 5-days Vacation Campaign As They Targets 140,000 Persons.

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service with the funding support from JHPIEGO-USAID RISE has begun another round of COVID -19 vaccination exercise in all the Districts, Municipalities and it’s Metropolis in the region.

The five-days exercise which has started today 26th to 30th April 2023, would seek to vaccinate people who have not been vaccinated or yet to complete their second jabs and the booster.

Dr. Emmanuel Tenkorang, the Regional Health Director in a short briefing, said persons who are 15 years and above including pregnant women are eligible to take the jab.
 

Dr. Tenkorang added that, vaccinating the population against this viral disease to achieve herd immunity is will continue to be the goal of the directorate.

He disclosed that, the exercise form part of the 2023 Covid-19 campaign and encouraged the media to support the directorate to create an awareness at all levels for a successful exercise.

He then cautioned the public to adhere to the safety protocols especially places were the risk of disease transmission is significant.

The Ashanti Region now has administered a total of 4,241,717 doses of the vaccines which 1,736,099 (53.9%) persons has been fully vaccinated, while 2,431,732 (75.5%) persons have at least taken a dose.

The directorate with this campaign is targeting 140,000 persons to be vaccinated. As they stressed the need for all stakeholders to play their part in scaling up this campaign.

Until the World Health Organization (WHO) declares that COVID-19 has been eliminated everyone remains at risk so let us all continue to observe the hand hygiene protocols always,” he said.
