The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been cautioned to tread carefully as it prepares to hold its presidential primary on Saturday, January 31, 2026, amid growing tension among supporters of the various aspirants.

With just a few days to the highly anticipated elections, concerns are mounting over rising hostilities among party faithful, particularly on social media platforms, radio, television discussions and even physical encounters.

These developments, observers fear, could undermine the peace the party hopes to maintain before, during and after the internal polls, with possible repercussions for the country at large.

The Nkosuohene of Nyankyerenease, Nana Gyamfi Kumanini, has issued a strong warning to the leadership of the NPP, urging them to take immediate steps to avert any possible unrest.

Speaking in an interview, the traditional leader called on party leaders to once again engage the five presidential aspirants, despite the peace pact already signed.

“The leadership of the NPP must sit the candidates down once again and impress upon them the need to speak firmly to their supporters,” Nana Gyamfi Kumanini said. “What I am seeing now is like a time bomb waiting to explode if care is not taken.”

He revealed that his concerns go beyond mere observation, claiming that he had received spiritual insight into the matter. “I have been seeing this in my dreams, and it has been pressing on my heart to come out and issue this warning,” he disclosed. “What I saw was an eyesore, and it is something that must be addressed so it does not happen.”

Nana Gyamfi Kumanini also directed a strong message to the youth and so-called macho men who have been at the centre of heated political banter online and offline. He urged them to desist from acts that could destabilise the peace of the party and the nation.

“The youth and macho men must be very careful,” he cautioned. “They are the ones who will suffer the most if violence breaks out. They should never allow themselves to be used by politicians because of money.”

In a rather blunt admonition, he added, “If money is offered to you, take it, spend it, but never carry out any act of mayhem before, during or after the elections.”

Meanwhile, all five presidential aspirants, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyapong have officially brought their campaigns to a close.

The party and the nation now await the outcome of Saturday’s election, with many hoping that peace, unity and discipline will prevail within the NPP.
