A new political party known as THE BASE has been officially outdoored with a bold declaration to break what its founders describe as Ghana’s long-standing political dichotomy under the Fourth Republic.

For the past 33 years, governance in Ghana’s Fourth Republic has largely alternated between the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to the leadership of THE BASE, this two-party dominance has limited the real choices available to Ghanaians and failed to adequately address the country’s pressing challenges.

At a press briefing, the Deputy Secretary of the new party, Nana Poku Agyemang, outlined the reasons behind the formation of THE BASE.

He argued that both major parties have not been able to fully meet the hopes and aspirations of Ghanaians, particularly the youth.

“They two parties together have not been able to satisfy the hopes and aspirations of the country, especially the youth,” he stated. “Ghana cannot go on like this forever. It is time to break this dichotomy. That is the reason for the birth of THE BASE, a third force that will seek to address the hopes and aspirations of all well-meaning Ghanaians.”

According to him, persistent concerns such as corruption, youth unemployment, lack of real and positive infrastructural development, and the decline in discipline and patriotism have characterised governance over the years.

He described the situation as an “eight-year recycling of incompetence, corruption, arrogance, greed and nepotism,” insisting that the country must chart a new path.

“The country has lost its sense of direction and self-belief. It is time to rediscover ourselves again and truly reset the country for real, not for the optics,” Nana Poku Agyemang emphasised.

The leadership of THE BASE maintains that the party is open to all citizens who love truth, seek justice, admire discipline and prioritise the welfare of the youth.

The party says it aims to serve as a springboard for what it calls “true gun-less revolutionary leadership” to reposition Ghana for sustainable development and renewed national confidence.
