Asantehemaa who resides on all markets in the Ashanti says she already has over 70 market commodity Queens who are responsible to operate the day-to-day affairs of the market, hence the Market management decision to elect new leaders is just a duplicate of what’s already in existence.

Speaking to, Nana Yaa Foriwaa, the Queen Mother of the all markets in Kumasi and double as Kumasi Bayerehemaa said that the management of the Kumasi City Market, newly formed group “Kumasi City Market Union” and two other radio stations making an announcement for the group on their upcoming elections were summoned by Asantehemaa to explain why they have decided to conduct elections at her market without her approval.

Nana Yaa Foriwaa whiles recounting what transpired at the Asantehemaa’s palace on Thursday, October 20 said “Asantehemaa further reiterated that all markets within Asanteman belongs to her including Kumasi City Market, so not even the market management or Board can conduct elections in the market without her approval”.

Nana Yaa Foriwaa who is one of the over 70 commodity Queens sworn into office by Asantehemaa to steer the affairs of the entire Market, further explained that “the group decision to conduct the elections is a disrespect to the directives of Asantehemaa because already there are various commodities Queen Mothers steering the affairs of the entire market, therefore there wouldn’t be any need for any elections to elect executives to supersede the powers of the Asantehemaa.”
