It Is Unlawful For ‘Trotro Mates’ To Conduct Without Bathing Or Using Perfume – The Law

It has been highlighted that bus conductors, commonly known as trotro mates in Ghana, are legally required to maintain personal hygiene, including bathing and using perfume, while on duty.

This mandate stems from Regulation 116 of L.I. 2180, which states that causing a nuisance in a public vehicle while it is in motion constitutes an offense.

The law defines “nuisance” as any act that makes it uncomfortable for others in a place where they are legally entitled to enjoy peace.

In the context of public transportation, GhanaWeb understands that this means that a trotro mate who neglects personal hygiene can be considered a nuisance, thereby violating the regulations.

This regulation aims to ensure a comfortable and pleasant environment for all passengers using public transport.

The law is clear on maintaining standards that promote public health and well-being.

Again, GhanaWeb interprets this regulation to mean that a trotro mate who fails to bathe or use perfume can create an uncomfortable experience for passengers, which the law recognizes as a form of nuisance.
