The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has received over 60 applications for the position of head coach for the national team, the Black Stars.

According to the Communications Director of the GFA, Henry Asante Twum, the majority of these applicants are from Europe. They are looking to take on the role of rebuilding the team following the World Cup.

Asante Twum believes that the high number of applicants for the job is due to the strong reputation of the Black Stars as one of the most recognizable and respected teams in Africa. He said that the team has a great history and potential, which makes it an attractive opportunity for coaches to be a part of it.

Asante Twum stated that the GFA will make an official announcement about the new head coach soon. He added that the GFA will select the best candidate to lead the team, who will have a clear vision, strategy, and plan to achieve success.

“The Black Stars is one of the attractive brands on the continent. Every single day you open the GFA email you will see someone has applied for the Black Stars coaching job,” he said on Asempa FM.

“Maybe over 60 applications. The Black Stars is very attractive. You cannot have Mohammed Kudus in your team and think the Black Stars is not attractive. It is an attractive brand, no doubt about that.

“Even the very day Coach Otto Addo confirmed he was leaving, we had coaches expressing interest in the job.”

“I’m never surprised that coaches are constantly applying. Most of them are from European countries and some too from South America.

According to Asante Twum, no Ghanaian coach has applied to become the new Black Stars coach. However, Kwasi Appiah said he is open to a return in an interview.

“So far, no Ghanaian coach has applied for the Black Stars job.”

The position has been vacant since Otto Addo left after the global showpiece in Qatar in December 2022.
