Mary Nyanson, a 37-year-old woman battling breast cancer for nearly two years in Agona Kwanyako, Agona East Municipality of the Central Region, has received life-changing support from EKK Charity Foundation, a non-profit organisation based in Kumasi.
Mary, a mother of two and a former cook, was the sole breadwinner for her family before her diagnosis.
Due to her condition, she has been unable to work, leaving her dependent on her single mother, Madam Yaa Afriyie. Sadly, Mary’s family and community have largely neglected her, worsening her plight.
Following an appeal made by a friend in Kumasi, the EKK Charity Foundation, led by Dr. Evans Kofi Kwafo, responded generously by donating GHS 10,000 to cater for Mary’s immediate medical needs.
Speaking about her daughter’s condition, Madam Yaa Afriyie said, “We have been going to the hospital since she was diagnosed, but the situation keeps worsening. Although the doctors haven’t given us a specific date for surgery, they’ve placed her on special treatment, and I pray it will help her feel better.”
She expressed her profound gratitude to the foundation and pleaded for additional support from individuals, organisations, and churches to sustain her daughter’s treatment.
Dr. Evans Kofi Kwafo, CEO of EKK Charity Foundation, said the GHS 10,000 donation was just a start.
“This is for her immediate medical expenses. Once the doctors set a date for her surgery and provide the cost, I am ready to cover that as well,” he assured.
Dr. Kwafo also pledged to take care of Mary’s two children, ensuring they receive an education. “I am doing this for the love of my country and my God,” he stated.
Mr. Samuel Simon, the Assemblyman of Agona Kwanyako and an Elder of the Anglican Church where Mary worships, also highlighted the struggles of Mary’s family.
“The family is not well-to-do, and it’s been difficult to even take care of her. I’ve made several appeals to people and organisations for support, but without success,” he revealed.
He commended EKK Charity Foundation, saying, “It’s remarkable that they came all the way from Kumasi to support her. I’ll continue to advocate for assistance until she recovers.”
The EKK Charity Foundation’s intervention has brought hope to Mary Nyanson and her family, but their appeal for further support remains open as they navigate this challenging time.
