The increasing rate of employee theft has become a significant concern for business owners in Ghana, with many finding it challenging to open or expand their businesses.
According to Dr. Emmanuel Osei Mensah, CEO of Agyapa Group of Companies, theft by employees often undermines the profitability and sustainability of businesses, discouraging owners from growing their enterprises even after taking loans from banks.
Dr. Mensah, addressing these issues at a workshop organized by Agyapa Tiles, a subsidiary of Agyapa Group in collaboration with Twyford Tiles Company, at Afari in the Atwima Nwabiagya South District, advised business owners to swiftly consider computerized systems to reduce the likelihood of employee theft.
“I urge all business owners to as quickly as possible computerize their operations to make it very difficult for employees to steal from them,” Dr. Mensah stated.
He emphasized the importance of technology-driven security measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras, engagement of expert security personnel, and thorough account management checks.
“Involving CCTV cameras, expert security personnel, and conducting proper checks on business accounts will create a deterrent for employees tempted to engage in dishonest practices. These measures can protect businesses from the risk of collapse,” he noted.
The workshop, aimed at enhancing the skills of tilers, introduced participants to new technologies and techniques in the tiling industry.
Speaking on behalf of Agyapa Tiles, Manager Miss Evelyn Opoku highlighted the purpose of the event, saying, “We organized this workshop to expose tilers to various modern techniques and machines used in the tiling industry today. Our goal is to empower them with skills that align with global standards.”
In addition, Miss Opoku urged the government to address the depreciating cedi, which she said is impacting business costs and discouraging consumer purchases.
“The rapid depreciation of the cedi against the dollar has made tiles increasingly expensive. We appeal to the government to take swift action to stabilize the cedi as it is affecting our sales,” she said.
Participants at the workshop expressed their appreciation for the exposure to new skills. Tiler Antwi Boasiako shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I’ve learned a lot about modern techniques in tiling, and I’m eager to apply them in my work.”
Richard Asiedu, another participant, echoed this sentiment, adding, “This workshop has given me valuable skills, and I appeal to the government to support young people like us who choose to learn skills by providing us with basic tools and equipment after our training.”
The workshop stands as a testament to the commitment of Agyapa Tiles and Twyford Tiles Company to empower local artisans with advanced knowledge and skills in tiling, fostering growth and professionalism in the industry despite economic challenges.
