The ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has produced a breakdown of territories where the illegal mining menace, a.k.a. galamsey is ongoing.
According to the ministry, 11 regions out of the 16 are engaged in galamsey with only five regions in the country being galamsey-free.
Out of the 11 regions, the menace is ongoing in 90 districts with the Ashanti region leading with 23 districts.
The Western Region follows with 15 districts with the Eastern region having 13 and the Western North and Upper East regions following with 8 apiece.
The Central and Upper West regions, Ahafo and Bono as well as Savannah and North East are the remaining regions having 6, 4 and 2 districts respectively.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and President Akufo-Addo met with the National House of Chiefs and the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives over the galamsey menace.
He has charged his appointees to rally behind him to fight the canker since it requires a collective effort.
