Atwima Mponua Youth Pleads With Chiefs, Residents To Support DCE Fight Against Galamsey

Concern youth of Atwima Mponua in the Ashanti Region has appealed to the chief’s and Residents of Atwima Mponua to help the District Chief Executive  Mr Isaac Marfo to fight against the illegal mining activities in the district to save their land and water bodies.

 

In a press conference held in their district capital Nyinahin,  Mr Philip Kwabena Nyame, leader of the youth said there must be a collective resolve by both the chiefs who own the lands that “never again should we mine in our river bodies.”.

 

He said such pledge should not be mere words of mouth but should be demonstrated through effective collaboration with the DCE in its fight against illegal mining.

Mr. Philip Nyame stressed that the desire to ensure that future generations get access to safe water should be a motivating factor for all stakeholders in the district to actively participate in the fight against illegal mining.

 

“What is left for us to do is to protect our water bodies. It won’t be an easy battle but we can win if we come together. The DCE is doing his part, we must also do ours, he added.
He then gave firm assurance that the youth in the area will not give up on the fight against illegal Mining.

Mr Nyame also appealed to the traditional authorities in the district to provide their unflinching support to the DCE Hon Isaac Marfo to deal with the situation.

He stated that as custodians of the land and our culture, the traditional authorities have an obligation to protect the water bodies for generations yet unborn.

The youth in sideline interview commended their DCE for the fight and urged residents and the chiefs in the district to report illegal mining activities in their localities. They impressed upon the DCE to help uproot the canker in order to save the district’s future
