A/R: Tawheed S.H.S Students Calls For Improved Facilities And Educational Resources.

Tawheed Senior High School, one of the oldest institutions in Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, recently concluded its SRC Week Celebrations with a series of events, including a debate and cultural displays that showcased the diverse ethnic heritage of its student body.

The Headmaster of Tawheed Senior High School, Mr. Ismaila Musah, highlighted the significance of the SRC Week Celebrations.

“The SRC Week celebrations give the students the platform to display what they have learned academically and also show how their various cultural traditions are being done,” he said.

This annual event not only fosters academic excellence but also promotes cultural awareness among students.

Despite the school’s rich history and contributions to education in the region, Tawheed Senior High School faces significant challenges due to a lack of modern infrastructure and equipment.

Mr. Musah expressed deep concerns about the inadequate facilities, stating, “Irrespective of the fact that the school is old, we lack basic modern facilities like Computer Labs, Science Lab, School Bus, Dining Hall, Dormitory, Teachers Quarters, amongst others, which is making teaching and learning difficult.”

The absence of essential facilities has compelled students to seek resources elsewhere.

“Students need to travel to schools like Kumasi Anglican SHS to be able to do their science practicals, which is really affecting students irrespective of how hardworking the teachers are,” Mr. Musah added.

He made a heartfelt plea to the government, NGOs, and other stakeholders to come to the school’s aid, emphasizing the urgent need for support.

Echoing the headmaster’s concerns, the Boys Prefect, Seidu Alhassan, shared the students’ struggles.

“We go through a lot of stress in studying in the school as we lack amenities which others also have while we are all going to write the exams,” he stressed.

The disparity in resources places Tawheed students at a disadvantage compared to their peers in other schools.

The Senior Girls Prefect, Jemima Adebi Frimpong, highlighted the dire need for computers.

“Even for the meantime, the government should provide us with computers because the 11 computers we have aren’t enough for our studies,” she said.

The scarcity of computers hampers the students’ ability to fully engage with digital learning tools and resources.

Furthermore, Jemima pointed out the challenges with access to potable water, particularly for boarding students.

“Portable water is also our challenge, especially for the boarding students because they have to walk for hours before they get water when the one on campus develops a fault or when they close it,” she explained.

The SRC Week Celebrations at Tawheed Senior High School served as a reminder of the school’s proud heritage and the talents of its students.

However, it also underscored the pressing need for modern infrastructure and resources to ensure that the students receive the quality education they deserve.

The call for assistance from the government and other stakeholders is more urgent than ever as Tawheed strives to overcome these challenges and continue its legacy of educational excellence.
