In a world where Information Communication Technology (ICT) is rapidly transforming the landscape of education and employment, Dr. George Asafo Agyei, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at the Ghana Investment Promotion Center, is advocating for the integration of digital skills among students.
During a recent visit to Ampabame No.2 D/A school in the Atwima Kwawoma District of the Ashanti Region, Dr. Asafo Agyei donated desktop computers to the school, underscoring his commitment to enhancing ICT education.
“IT and digital skills have become a tool to improve confidence in learning and at workplaces, hence the need to equip students in ICT,” Dr. Asafo Agyei stated.
He emphasized the importance of students leveraging the myriad opportunities in the ICT space to broaden their knowledge and prepare for future challenges.
Dr. Asafo Agyei also called upon alumni of Ampabame No.2 D/A school to contribute to its development.
“I’ll continue to support the school and encourage others who went to the same school to also support the project,” he pledged, reinforcing the idea of community involvement in educational advancement.
Dr. Asafo Agyei’s donation is part of his broader mission to support educational institutions and foster an environment conducive to learning.
In addition to Dr. Asafo Agyei’s contribution, the Member of Parliament (MP) Hon. Amankwah Manu and the District Chief Executive (DCE) Hon. Prince Karikari also made significant donations to aid the school’s infrastructure development.
They provided 200 bags of cement and 40 packets of roofing sheets to help build a new school block.
The Assemblyman, Hon. Elder Frank Appiagyei, representing both the MP and the DCE, expressed gratitude for their generosity.
“The school needs more support, and we appreciate the contributions made. We urge NGOs and other organizations to continue supporting us,” he said.
The Afrancho Circuit Supervisor of the Ghana Education Service, Madam Beatrice Essel, attended the event on behalf of the education director.
She advised the students to utilize the computers effectively for their education. “Computer Labs in the various schools should be solely for education purposes but not other things,” she remarked, highlighting the importance of maintaining a focus on learning.
The collaborative efforts of individuals like Dr. Asafo Agyei, Hon. Amankwah Manu, Hon. Prince Karikari, and the dedication of education officials like Madam Beatrice Essel demonstrate a united front in enhancing the quality of education.
