The President of the Chinese Community in Ghana, H.E. Tong Defa, has cautioned Chinese nationals living and working in the country to strictly comply with Ghana’s laws and refrain from engaging in illegal activities, particularly illegal mining.

Speaking at a New Year engagement with members of the Chinese community, H.E. Tang Hong stressed that every Chinese national in Ghana is an ambassador of China and must conduct themselves in a manner that protects the image and reputation of their country.
He emphasized that Ghana’s laws apply equally to everyone, warning that any Chinese national who flouts the law will face the full rigours of Ghana’s legal system without expecting special treatment or diplomatic intervention.

H.E. Tang Hong urged Chinese citizens to avoid illegal acts, fraud, hate speech, and any behaviour capable of damaging China’s image. He further encouraged them to respect Ghana’s culture, customs, and traditions.
“Your conduct reflects China. Uphold integrity, engage positively with the Ghanaian people, promote mutual respect, do good deeds, stay safe, and thrive in Ghana,” he stated, while reaffirming the Chinese Embassy’s commitment to supporting lawful behaviour and peaceful cultural integration.
Touching on business and investment, the president called on Chinese investors and their Ghanaian partners to build partnerships grounded in trust, transparency, and mutual respect.
He acknowledged that many Chinese investors depend on local partners to navigate Ghana’s regulatory and cultural landscape, but noted that misunderstandings and disputes sometimes arise when partnerships fail.
In such cases, he advised Chinese businesses to promptly notify the Chinese Embassy, the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and relevant associations to help facilitate solutions.
He also appealed to Ghanaian business partners to honour agreements and maintain open communication, stressing that honesty is key to sustaining long-term business relationships.
“Partnerships should be about cooperation, not complications,” he said.
H.E. Tang Hong disclosed that Chinese investors have expressed strong interest in Ghana’s 2026 strategic development plan, citing the country’s political stability and expanding investment opportunities.
He highlighted government initiatives in infrastructure development, smart cities, renewable energy, digital connectivity, and the 24-Hour Economy policy as major drivers attracting Chinese investment.
The president concluded by calling for stronger China–Ghana cooperation to promote shared prosperity and sustainable development.
