The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), has issued a formal apology following the circulation of a viral video showing an altercation between a member of its Dress Code Compliance Team and a Level 100 female student.
In a statement dated July 3, 2025, the university described the staff member’s conduct as “unacceptable” and confirmed that an internal investigation had verified the circumstances surrounding the incident.
UPSA condemned the behaviour outright, emphasising that no staff member has the right to mistreat a student under any circumstances.
“As a professional university whose core values are integrity, respect, and service, UPSA holds the dignity and well-being of every student as paramount,” the statement read.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university has personally apologised to the affected student, reaffirming the school’s commitment to fostering a respectful and professional campus environment. The staff member involved in the incident has also submitted a written apology.
In turn, the student has expressed regret for her actions in a letter to university management.
UPSA further announced plans to review how its dress code is enforced. Management said it would enhance training for the Dress Code Compliance Team to ensure future interactions with students uphold the university’s standards of respect and professionalism.
“While UPSA remains steadfast in its commitment to uphold the dress code, the university assures all stakeholders that enforcement of the same will always be carried out with respect and civility, taking cognizance of due process,” the statement added.
The university reiterated that its dress code policy is clearly outlined in the Student Handbook and aims to instill a corporate culture in students preparing for the professional world.
UPSA reassured the public of its dedication to providing a safe, respectful, and disciplined learning environment for all.
