As the world transitions into a digital economy, many Ghanaians and Africans remain unfamiliar with online trading and digital financial literacy.
Traditionally, trading in Ghana has involved owning physical shops where buyers and sellers meet in person.
However, with the digital era upon us, the Director of Up Africa Movement, Mr David Megga, has described online trading as a game changer in addressing the rising unemployment challenge in Ghana and across Africa.
Speaking at a follow-up seminar held in Asante Mampong, Mr Megga explained that online trading requires no special education, skills, or knowledge. “All one needs is a mobile phone, and they are good to go,” he said.
He further pleaded with the government to officially endorse online trading initiatives to enable more Ghanaians to embrace digital entrepreneurship and become financially independent, thereby reducing the country’s unemployment rate.
The follow-up seminar was organised to check on the progress of new members who recently joined the Up Africa Movement from Asante Mampong and its surrounding areas.
According to Mr Megga, it was refreshing to note that feedback from participants indicated significant improvements in their financial situations since joining the movement.
Several beneficiaries shared their testimonies during the seminar.
Rev. Dauda Natuka, a minister with the Assemblies of God Church and a beneficiary, expressed his gratitude, stating, “Joining the Up Africa Movement has helped me greatly in my ministry.
“As an evangelist, I need funds to reach out to unreached communities. Since I joined, I have been able to raise enough money to support my evangelistic activities.”
Another beneficiary, Gladys Agoma, a senior high school graduate, shared how the movement transformed her life. “I had no hope of continuing to tertiary education after SHS. Upon hearing about Up Africa Movement, I decided to take advantage of it.
“Today, I have been able to buy tertiary application forms and I am awaiting admission. I encourage my fellow youth to take advantage of this opportunity before it gets too late,” she said.
The Up Africa Movement continues to demonstrate that with the right digital tools and mindset, financial independence is achievable, even without formal higher education.
