“Embrace Lifelong Learning: Afigya Kwabre North Education Director Urges Teachers to Adapt to 21st-Century Teaching Standards”.

In a bid to address the growing need for teachers to adapt to modern educational standards, the Afigya Kwabre North District Education Directorate has organized a two-day workshop dubbed the “School Managers Conference.”

The event, held under the theme “Transforming Education; Leadership For Impact And Growth,” took place in Boamang and brought together educators, school managers, and heads to discuss innovative ways to improve teaching and learning in the 21st century.

The workshop was attended by former and current Ashanti Regional Education Directors, who shared their knowledge and experiences with participants.

The initiative comes at a time when many teachers in Ghana, particularly those who completed their training before the IT era, are reluctant to upgrade their skills to meet the demands of today’s tech-savvy students.

While some educators have embraced technology to enhance their teaching, others remain resistant to change, creating a gap in the quality of education delivered.

Speaking at the event, Madam Ellen Eshun, the Education Director for Afigya Kwabre North, emphasized the importance of continuous learning for teachers. She stated, “The teaching environment is changing, and we must throw away the outmoded system and embrace new ideas and systems to ensure our schools catch up with 21st-century standards.”

Madam Eshun highlighted that the primary goal of the workshop was to share ideas and equip teachers with the tools needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.

Madam Eshun also urged teachers to take advantage of such workshops to update their knowledge. “Modern students think differently, and as a teacher, if you are not on top of issues, you might end up being disgraced by a student because what you have learned may be outdated,” she cautioned.

She further appealed to educators to commit to lifelong learning, stressing that staying updated is crucial for maintaining relevance in the classroom.

The workshop served as a platform for participants to discuss leadership strategies, innovative teaching methods, and the integration of technology in education.

By fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the Afigya Kwabre North District Education Directorate aims to empower teachers to lead with impact and drive growth in their schools.

This initiative underscores the need for Ghana’s education sector to adapt to global trends and ensure that teachers are well-equipped to nurture the next generation of learners. As Madam Eshun aptly put it, “Transforming education begins with leadership, and leadership begins with a willingness to learn and grow.”
