The Chief of Kunsu in the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Dr. Agyemang Badu Duah I, has taken a significant step toward improving education in his community by cutting the sod for the construction of a six-unit classroom block for Kunsu Roman Catholic Junior High School (R/C JHS).
The project, estimated to cost over GHC 120,000, is expected to be completed in three months. Upon completion, the school will feature six classrooms, staff common rooms, washrooms, and a borehole, providing much-needed facilities for both students and staff.
For several years, Kunsu R/C JHS students have been facing a dire challenge due to the lack of proper infrastructure.
Many have been forced to attend classes under makeshift canopies, which disrupt the learning process, especially during harsh weather conditions.
During rain and wind, students often have to halt lessons, pack their desks, and wait for the weather to subside. This situation has significantly hindered the delivery of quality education.
In response to this pressing issue, Nana Dr. Agyemang Badu Duah I visited the school and assured the staff and students of his commitment to resolving the problem.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Chief highlighted his vision of improving educational standards in his community.
“My superior, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is using education to transform his kingdom. As a subordinate, I am learning from him to ensure that the children of Kunsu receive quality education,” Nana Dr. Agyemang Badu Duah I remarked.
Nana Dr. Agyemang Badu Duah I also called on his fellow chiefs to make education a priority, emphasizing its importance for community progress. “I urge my fellow chiefs to also prioritise education, as it is the key to development,” he stated.
The Headmaster of Kunsu R/C JHS, Mr. Gilbert Dery Nifakyenzaa, expressed his profound gratitude to the Chief for his swift intervention in addressing the school’s infrastructure needs.
“We are very thankful to Nana Dr. Agyemang Badu Duah I for responding to our concerns. The situation has really affected teaching and learning, but as teachers, we are doing everything we can to ensure that the students receive the best education possible,” Mr. Nifakyenzaa stated.
Mr. Nifakyenzaa also appealed to other organisations for assistance, particularly in establishing a computer lab for the school.
“We are in desperate need of computers. This would help us teach computer-related subjects and prepare our students for the modern world,” he added.
Some students also voiced their concerns, noting how the current conditions negatively impact their studies.
They appealed to authorities for urgent support, especially in providing computers. “We really need computers to help us learn ICT. It is becoming difficult to study without them,” a student said.
The project, once completed, is expected to alleviate these challenges and significantly enhance the learning environment at Kunsu R/C JHS, giving the students a brighter future.
