The Municipal Chief Executive for Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region Hon Louis Owusu Agyapong has explained with instances how Russia-Ukraine crises has distracted Ghana’s 2022 budgetary projections by government.
In discussion on Okyeame Radio with Deetu Kwadwo Amofa over the mid-year budget review presented in parliament by finance minister Hon Ken Ofori Att, he exampled that when the two major producers of the world’s golden pod Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire break or fall in cocoa production it will affect the entire universe because they produce largest, quality cocoa in the world.
Likewise, the recent Russia-Ukraine mayhem has highly affected economies globally which Ghana is not exempted saying Russia, Ukraine are the largest suppliers of fertilizer, steel adding that Russia alone supplies about fifty percent ( *50%* ) of the world’s fuel consumption and fall in fuel production or supply forces price hike which affect almost every item on the market and this is one of the major things that has distracted 2022 budget, he opined.
He believe that government could not meet its E-levy projections simply because the levy is not compulsory rather optional and people also finds other alternative means of doing transactions to escape the E-levy and he sees that evading taxes isn’t the best if we want to development as a country urging all and sundry to embrace the E-levy in good faith by contributing our quota to support government’s ambitions.
