Environmental Day Celebration Report: Green Foreland Foundation Launches Green Schools Club Projects

The world environment day is celebrated every year on 5th June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet earth. It is a day that reminds everyone on the planet to get involved in environment friendly activities.

This year’s celebration was conducted with the theme: “Only one earth”.

Green foreland foundation a non- Governmental Organization in collaboration with sampled schools from the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality came together to pledge towards building a greener planet by planting sapling trees within the Prestea township as well as creating awareness for people to understand the need to protect our environment. A lot of enthusiasm was seen in the students. The event was conducted successfully with whole hearted participation and awareness about plants.

Other activities to earmark the occasion was a visit to the Hiawa Prisons located at the Bawdie-Asankragwa road.

 

Students had the opportunity to interact with inmates and also donate items to enhance their welfare in the correction center.

The occasion was climaxed on Sunday by launching the Green Schools Club at the Prestea Workers Club which was graced by various dignitaries from the Prestea Municipality.

 

 

 

 

Special Guest speaker was Dr. Thomas Wi-Afedzi, a senior lecturer from the University of Mines and Technology. Other guests speakers included the chief commander of Hiawa Prison, CSP Daniel Naja Donkor, GES Representatives from the directorate and representatives from the Ghana Police service.

Representing schools included Prestea Senior High Technical School, Goldfields School, SDA Basic School and Anglican Basic School.

 

 

Lead Facilitators included: Ebenezer Yiwo, Moses Ofori, Emmanuel Adu-Boateng, Stephen Benteh etc.
