GFA Puts Ghana Premier League On Hold

The 2022/23 Ghana Premier League which commenced couple of weeks ago has been suspended temporary with immediate effect, heading into match-week 4.

 

This is due to the reason that, AshantiGold SC who were demoted into the second division months ago, have placed an injunction on the league which had commenced already.

 

The Ghana FA were notified following a motion on notice for injunction filed at the Human Rights High Court which was served on the association’s lawyers last Wednesday afternoon.
This means the league will suffer a temporal suspension now until the final ruling of the issue is passed by the court on October 14, 2022.
According to the GFA, they have communicated this unfortunate incident to clubs, sponsors and all partners and have also assured all stakeholders of getting the league back as soon as possible and urged them all to remain calm on the issue.
Three round of matches has been held already with some interesting and exciting outcomes and was heading into week 4 this Friday and subsequently the weekend.

The Ghana Football Association has decided to put the betPawa Premier League on hold.

This follows a Motion on Notice for Injunction filed yesterday at the Human Rights High Court by Ashantigold SC and served on the GFA’s lawyers yesterday afternoon.

Following the receipt of the Motion, the Association has decided to put the league on hold until the determination of a Motion on Notice for Injunction by the court on October 14, 2022.

The GFA has subsequently communicated this decision to all sponsors, partner and clubs.

The Association wishes to urge all stakeholders – sponsors and partners and clubs who have invested in the league, players whose livelihood depends on the league, match officials, administrators, officials and supporters of the league and the clubs to remain calm.

The Association will endeavour to seek redress for the prompt return of the Premier League and ensure that the calendar is not further disrupted in this world cup year.
