NIA Workers Suspend Strike

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced the temporary suspension of the indefinite strike action initiated by its staff under the Public Services Workers’ Union (PSWU), paving the way for a full resumption of registration and ID services across the country starting Monday, June 30, 2025.

In a public notice issued on Sunday, June 29, and signed by Williams Ampomah E. Darlas, Head of the NIA’s Corporate Affairs Directorate, the authority said the decision follows extensive engagements with key stakeholders, including the National Labour Commission (NLC), the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC), the Ministry of Finance, and the leadership of the PSWU.

“Management acknowledges and appreciates the good faith demonstrated by the Union and wishes to assure all staff that their legitimate concerns remain a priority and will continue to receive the urgent attention they deserve,” the statement read.

The suspension comes after days of service disruptions that affected access to national ID registration services. The NIA expressed regret over any inconvenience caused during the period of industrial action and thanked the public for their patience and understanding.

“All NIA offices and registration centres across the country will resume full operations on Monday, 30th June 2025,” the authority confirmed, urging the public to take advantage of the resumption to access ID services.

The statement reaffirmed the NIA’s commitment to delivering “quality, efficient and reliable identification services” to Ghanaians in fulfilment of its national mandate.
