2024 WASSCE: Christian Methodist SHS Students Attack Teachers For Refusing To Allow Exam Malpractice

A disturbing incident has shaken the Christian Methodist Senior High School (Chrimeto) in New-Aplaku, Greater Accra Region, as students allegedly attacked teachers for refusing to allow exam malpractice during the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

According to eyewitnesses, the students, fueled by anger and frustration, chased and stoned the teachers, including Walter Yesutor Adanunyo, who was captured on video running for his life.

Mr. Adanunyo, one of the assaulted teachers, recounted the events leading up to the attack.

On Monday, after the integrated science paper, a student informed him and his Head of Department about a mob at the school gate, threatening to harm Mr. Adanunyo for being “too strict” in the exam room.

The teachers promptly notified the headmaster, who called the police patrol team to intervene.

The police successfully dispersed the students, but the respite was short-lived.

The following day, without police presence, the students resumed their aggression, pelting the teachers with stones and sachet water.

Mr. Adanunyo described the chaotic scene: “We were three permanent teachers and two service personnel. I told them to leave, but some students used other routes and met us halfway, throwing pure water and stones.”

Police Intervention

The police reportedly arrested four students, although Mr. Adanunyo couldn’t confirm if they were the same individuals involved in the confrontation.

This incident echoes a similar event during WASSCE a few years ago, where students at Bright Senior High School in the Eastern region exhibited similar behavior.
