A final-year student at O’Reilly Senior High School located in Okpoi-Gonno in the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal District, Accra, 18-year-old Edward Borketey Sackey, was tragically stabbed to death by a fellow student on Monday, September 2.
Edward, a student in the General Arts Department, was attacked by Godwin, a student from the Visual Arts Department, following a dispute that erupted on campus after Edward had finished an exam.
Edward’s cousin recounted the incident, explaining that the altercation began over an argument about their respective wealth. “We heard some noise at the back and asked what was wrong. They said it was Godwin and Edward fighting,” she said. “I asked what the fight was about and they said it was nothing serious.”
According to Accra-based 3News, the argument escalated over a debate about who was wealthier, leading to Edward being stabbed three times in the chest. “The whole thing was about who has what and who is lying about it,” the cousin added.
She reported that Godwin had previously warned her to “warn your brother or else his blood will flow.” Edward had reportedly sought help from teachers, but “they did not do anything,” she said.
After rushing to her uncle’s shop near the school to report the situation, she found Edward covered in blood upon her return. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
