The Ghanaian’s boyhood club’s drop to the Bundesliga 2 was confirmed after their 1-1 draw against Bochum at home on Saturday.

The 36-year-old was left emotional by the relegation of Hertha Berlin to Germany’s second tier.

“I can’t realize it yet,” Boateng told reported after the game. “It is just bitter, I love this club. I came here and I knew that not everything would be rosy. The fans are angry, disappointed and sad, that is completely normal.
